What's a journal, Daddy? Well, categorically speaking, it's a periodic publication from a corporate or societal source, so it could be anything from a mimeographed newsletter or house organ to a hardbound book. It's in the middle of Magazines and Ephemera. If it's not in one of them, you'll find it here. Maybe. (3/3/05)

AAHS JOURNALS as a lot:

American Aviation Historical Society (AAHS) quarterly journals are to printed aviation history what Aerofiles is to the Internet, but global in scope and with a depth of research a hundred times greater -- there is no equal to the amount of information on their pages. Our set of journals has been a fountain of dependable information over the years, but now the time has come to send them off to spread their good words elsewhere.

The first original 3 volumes were pretty much kitchen table projects back then by an ambitious and dedicated crew, mimeographed on typing paper and hand-stapled until 1959, when the first photo covers appeared, then improving in quality to the current volumes, which are as professional-looking as anything on the stands.

The set goes from 1/#1 (Spring 1956) to 43/#4 (Winter 1998), which is when both our subscription and money ran out. With our mastery of basic arithmetic, 43 years times 4 issues works out to about 172 issues. Condition is generally at least [C] to [A], getting better as they get newer, but they've all been used for research, so there might be a few chili stains and fingerprints here and there.

Pricewise, we'll shoot for a best offer over $400, which is $2.33 an issue, much less than half its value in the single-issue market (considering the scarcity and value of the older originals). If no takers after a while, then we'll settle for the $400. If that bombs out, it'll be 'make offer.'

There are extras that come with the lot, some indexes and incidentals we didn't bother listing since those would legally be Ephemera, right?

NOTE: The first 5 volumes here are the originals (described above), which were replaced with the optional bound reprints around 1980.

CROSS & COCKADE quarterly journals are like their AAHS counterpart, but focused on World War One aviation and its inhabitants. Like AAHS, they are authoritative, informative, and packed with data, rare photos, three-views, squadron activities on both sides of the Front, and just plain good reading for anyone interested in the War To End All Wars. Worth stressing is that this is a complete run of the original U.S. journals C&C was acquired by a British group who still perpetuate the journals as Cross & Cockade International.

We're in the slow process now of counting and verifying the issues , but should have them pasted down here soon... whenever that is.
